Indianapolis Calls to Withdraw From NFL

As the league's only undefeated team, the Colts know that every team will be gunning for them every week. And this week's team may have even more motivation when Indianapolis (9-0) visits the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. (Link)

Assistant defensive coordinator John Murtha has called for the immediate withdrawal of the Colts from the NFL. He issued a statement yesterday stsing his concern for the well being of the teams players.

Players get hurt. I've seen broken ribs, torn knee ligaments, concussions, and even career ending injuries.

John Murtha's voice cracked and tears filled his eyes as he told of his visits with wounded players - and called for the immediate withdrawal of their comrades in the NFL. (Link)

Murtha is a hall of fame linbacker who won 2 superbowl in the 70's with the Steelers.

Some critics have suggested that it doesn't make any sense to forfeit the season when it is going so well. One fan of the Colts said, "Why would you quit when your dominating all your opponents? We could win the whole thing this year."

Murtha sarcastically responded by saying, "I like guys who've never been there that criticize us who've been there."

The human cost is just too high. How many players have to have career ending injuries before we realize that playing football just isn't worth the suffering it causes?
