There's No Stopping Dick

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) refuses to apologize for his comparison between Nazis and G'itmo. He even went on to say, "This administration should apologize to the American people for abandoning the Geneva Conventions and authorizing torture techniques that put our troops at risk and make Americans less secure," on Wednesday evening.

He went on to catalogue even more astonishing abuses that he had discovered:

"It has come to my attention that the United States is abusing it's own innocent citizens in the most unfathomable of fashions in detainment facilities all over the country. These are generally outdoor facilities with tens of thousands of detainees.

First the detainees are made to stand during the playing of the National Anthem. The detainees are forced to sit in uncomfortable seating for hours at a time, sometimes in unbearable heat, and sometimes in somewhat chilly weather conditions. Frequently, the detainees are overexposed to sunlight in the outdoor facilities, and suffer severe sunburn.

The most unfortunate of the detainees are forced to stand on the "field of play" in these extreme conditions. One unlucky detainee is forced to remain in a squatting position for lengthy periods of time, sometimes being allowed to stand. This most unfortunate individual is forced to wear heavy protective equipment while hard balls are hurled at him at velocities in excess of 90 miles per hour. Occasionally these individuals get to take a brief respite in a small cave while another group of detainees takes to the "field of play." This exchange goes on for several hours, and is clearly enough to bore any individual to the brink of insanity.

The detainees that are stuffed into the cramped seating of the facility have no worthwhile sustenance to satiate their hunger. All that is available to them are hotdogs, nachos, stale soft pretzels, cotton candy and ice cream. However obtaining these items comes at a severe cost. Clearly these are not foods fit for human consumption, yet the detainees pay hefty fees to satisfy their hunger pangs. This goes on for several hours, before the detainees are remanded back to their own quarters.

As if that were not enough, These events are broadcast on live network or cable television, for the sadistic enjoyment of millions of American citizens. There are also many other similar events, some at indoor facilities, and others at outdoor facilities, where the activity on the "field of play varies, but many of the other circumstances remain the same. At one such type of event, detainees are forced to stand, there is not adequate seating available, and rock or rap music, as loud as a jet engine is blasted through giant speakers, as other detainees are paraded around on a platform under unbearably hot and bright lights.

I'm sure as you are listening to this you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime--Pol Pot or others--that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners. Please America, I beg of you to change course. It's not too late to stop this torture of innocent civilians. It's not too late. I yield the floor."

Wow! America is far worse than I had previously thought.
